This house was built by Charles Applegate between 1852 and 1856 and is the oldest known residence in Oregon. Applegate's ghost, his wife's, and several of their fifteen children are said to haunt the upper level of the home, while the apparitions of a man wearing baggy pants and a lady dressed in white are known to haunt the ground floor's parlor room.

The home was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
