OregonHauntedHouses.com recently sat down with Melanie of Carn-EVIL of Terror, to discuss what's new at Carn-EVIL of Terror for the 2024 Halloween Season!

What's new at Carn-EVIL of Terror for 2024? Do you have any new rides, attractions, or special features that Haunt Seekers should know about?

We are excited to bring back the 2024 Scare-C.R.O.W. Haunted maze on the flat floor of the Florence Events Center - a freakishly fabulous indoor venue with yummy concessions and other shenanigans in the lobby. We will have a photo area, lounge area for relaxing after or before you die, and some carnival games to test your luck!

What are you most excited about for the 2024 Halloween Season?

Halloween is the BEST time of year. Today we took a few of our actors down to Old Town for a photo/video shoot and you should have seen the strange looks we got. I'm most excited to hear the people screaming in terror and watch them being chased out of the maze by our talented crew. We have the BEST scare-actors!

What differentiates Carn-EVIL of Terror from other local haunts in Oregon?

We are a non-profit organization, so our maze is a fundraiser. We like to say "come show you care by being scared." Plus we are a theatre company, so our production values and attention to detail far surpasses most mazes. If you look closely, you'll see incredible imagery and things you won't see elsewhere - not to mention our killer costumes and make-up and sets/props! We do a lot with a limited budget and we always get excellent feedback from our victims!

How long has Carn-EVIL of Terror been in business? Can you tell us a bit more about Carn-EVIL of Terror's history?

This is our 6th Haunted Maze, but only our second in this venue. We won "Best Haunt" in OR in 2018 with "Quarantine" - and we'd love to win again. Last year we were "Top Rated," Help us win again, by reviewing us!

What's your favorite experience since opening Carn-EVIL of Terror?

We simply love to hear the people scream. That's always the best part. We also love to freak people out when they exit. They think they're done. They're not.
Last year, we had a lady who literally could NOT get into her car after the maze. To be fair, a scary clown followed her and wouldn't stop staring....but dropping your keys and fumbling around on the asphalt next to your car? Really? How B-movie of you, ma'am!

How long is a typical haunt experience at Carn-EVIL of Terror from start to finish?

It depends if you are able to make it to the finish line. Some people race through, and some never make it out alive. But in all seriousness, the maze typically lasts around 8 minutes or so. Make sure to take in the details and don't race through too fast. We always have folks who loved it so much and want to go through a second time!

On a scale from 1 to 10, how scary would you say Carn-EVIL of Terror is? Why?

I'd give it an 8. We don't allow touching and we don't have extreme gore like some other mazes. It's easy to scare people when you cross those boundaries and frankly we think that it cheapens the effect. But we use more psychological scares and are far more efficient in "what the heck did I just see???" type moments. So, while you may not have fake blood splashed on you or be physically touched by an actor, you'll still find yourself awfully freaked out and wondering what the HECK is around the next dark corner.

Does Carn-EVIL of Terror's property have any real haunted history? Do you have a spooky encounter you'd like to share?

None

Can Carn-EVIL of Terror accommodate large groups? How many people can experience Carn-EVIL of Terror together as a group?

We prefer groups of no more than 4. Our monsters prefer to isolate you before they eat you.
